North Dakota

It has been a totally crazy month getting ready to move, driving for 3 days and finally getting here only to wait for a house. But we made it! Yahoo!! North Dakota is actually much prettier than we expected. There are lots of green rolling hills. The town looks to have just about everything you need to survive, except large scale shopping...but hey, there is a Target! We are currently in temporary lodging until our house gets cleared from maintenance.

Living on an Air Force Base is always interesting. You never know what kind of house you are going to get. This base has brand new beautiful housing, none of which is available for us. The officer housing is still in construction so we are stuck with an older home. We are fine with having an older home, except for every once in a while I look at those new houses and it makes me a bit frustruated. Oh well, It has lovely hardwood floors and nice windows but it is TINY. We aren't sure all the furniture is going to fit. We should get to move in sometime next week, worst case scenario it will be 2 weeks.

The good thing is that our neighbors are just moving in also and they have a boy Harmon's age and a baby Ella's age. During the long winter months it will be nice to have a neighbor with a child the same age. The only really crazy weird thing so far is all of the rodents. I've heard them called prairie dogs, whistle pigs, and ground squirrels...basically they are fat rats. They are EVERYWHERE!! And I mean everywhere. I have seen them before but not like this. They are in ALL the yards. You have to watch every step you make so that you don't twist your ankle is some huge animal cavern. I grew up shooting these ugly things....so I might let micah put the silencer on his gun and pop a few. HA HA!! Ya right.

Harmon is excited to get out and make a few friends. His school is right next to our house so we can walk him to school while the weather is good. He as adjusted to the time change just fine, however Porter is still sleeping until 10 am each day. I am gonna have to help him get adjusted to the time by getting him up sooner but I am hesitant to do that. Porter is such a screamer and waking him up before he is ready is NEVER adviseable.

The state fair starts this weekend, we might go check it out...what else do we have to do?? And for those of you who know me...I am going crazy!! I need a project. I might have to go to the fabric store and get something to keep me busy until we can get moved into our house. I keep trying to make myself wait...I've got about 10 million projects packed away with all our household goods, but I don't know if I can hold out that long. It is either that or get on Heritage Makers and finish a couple of books. That is what I really need to do.

So, hello to everyone...greetings from the frozen tundra...they don't irrigate their crops around here...what does that tell you? If you can't reach us that would be because the cell phone was packed up but I will let you know what our new info is when we get it.
